Eternal Eve
A Cambodian textile company on the Mekong River sponsored the Eternal Eve Project. This company is run by former prostitutes who transformed their lives by creating Eternal Eve woven silks. The fabric used to create the Silk Suit and “with my ear to the ground” has been crafted by this company. Weaving begins with spinning. The spinning of the secretions of the caterpillar Bombyx Mori created a major trade route from Asia to Europe. These two works are about containment, protection and comfort as well as vanity and politics. A paradox of feminine armor and beauty. The suit will be worn during rituals and installations in 2009. Inspired by Beuys’ felt suit of 1972; this piece goes further into the realms of past and future. It pays homage to Beuys’ concept of “spiritual warmth”. These two works are scheduled to be shown in Berlin in October, 2009.
